Millstatt am See shines in the most atmospheric colours from 1 December 2024 to 6 January 2025. Tahmina and the mighty lime tree in the courtyard of Millstatt Abbey tell fabulous stories and, one Advent walk further on, the winter waves carry Christmas wishes out onto the lake.
Those who set off along the Millstätter Lichtweg will soon realise that the journey is the destination and that the hours spent in Millstatt bring Christmas and the New Year a good deal closer. Surprises and inspiration await at every fork in the road. Thanks to the internationally active artist collective OchoReSotto, the facades of the historic town are transformed into luminous motifs. They are glimpses of light that invite visitors to trace the secrets of AdventTIME.
And in between? There's TIME for a warm punch (stop off at the Lichtweg) and a letter to Father Christmas!
With the Advent shuttle to the "Millstätter Lichtweg"
The Advent shuttle runs between Radenthein and Spittal an der Drau during the Advent season (November 30 - December 22, Friday to Sunday and on December 31, 2024 - see timetable) and takes guests comfortably to the "Millstätter Lichtweg" in Millstatt am See!
Tip: The Advent shuttle connections can also be used to go Advent hopping through Carinthia. Spittal train station becomes a hub, and Advent highlights such as Advent in Villach or the Mallnitz Mountain Advent are just a bus or S-Bahn ride away from the Millstatt Trail of Lights!

On her adventurous journey through time, Tahmina stops at the Lichtweg, guided tours take place, the Waldtaverne in the monastery is open, and the MS Porcia also departs from Millstatt between Thursday and Sunday.
Those who embark on the path of light with Tahmina embark on a journey through the centuries. Together, portals through time are opened and plenty of room for interpretation is created. All you need is a smartphone, an app (for the audio guide) and headphones. Tahmina can also be met in person several times along the "Millstätter Lichtweg".
The MS Porcia glides gently over the soft winter waves of Lake Millstätter See. The saloon is comfortably warm and Captain Franz talks about life on the lake over mulled cider and apple punch! The atmosphere on board is relaxed and laid-back. The views of the stunning natural scenery with snow-covered mountains in the background are impressive.
Sparkling Christmas trees and illuminated facades accompany you on the Advent hike through Carinthia. There are numerous hotels and restaurants along the way. Once the light columns at the entrance are brightly lit, you can stop for a bite to eat.
A cell phone and the Locandy app, which is downloaded with it, are required. This can then be used to scan the QR code at the storytelling station and the TIME journey begins. Headphones are recommended for an undisturbed Advent experience.
In addition to a pre-Christmas walk along the light path, you can also send your post to the Christ Child. During Advent on the lake, wish boats are sent on their journeys, and when dusk falls, it gets atmospheric in the monastery. Some restaurants are also open. Guests can see which establishments are open by the pulsating light columns at the entrance.

From November 30 to December 22 and on December 31, 2024, from Friday to Sunday, the Advent shuttle runs every hour from 13:45 (first trip from Spittal/Bahnhof) on line 5140/44 between Radenthein and Spittal an der Drau. The last departure from Millstätter Lichtweg - Millstatt Strandbad stop - is at 21:04 in the direction of Radenthein and at 21:52 in the direction of Spittal.
The Advent shuttle ticket costs € 5 and can be purchased online in the experience store! Analogue tickets for the Advent shuttle are available at the tourist offices in Döbriach, Millstatt am See, Seeboden am M.S. and Spittal.
ATTENTION: The Advent shuttle ticket must be purchased before the journey. The regular Carinthian public transport fare must be paid on the 5140/44 bus!

Tip: If you are traveling from further away, use the Advent shuttle to get to Spittal-Millstätter See station and take the S-Bahn to get there and back.
The nearest highway exit is the A10 (Seeboden exit). Advent guests can reach Millstatt am See from Seeboden and Radenthein via the B 98. There are plenty of parking spaces in the village (some subject to a charge).
When committed people meet in the right place at the right time, magic can happen. This was also the case when author Monika Peitler, fairy tree artist Thomas Schüssler-Kalt and the representatives of millstART worked together on the idea of bringing light into the AdventTIME at the lake. They quickly made contact with OchoReSotto. The internationally active artist collective is known for its large-scale projections, which have already transformed the façades of St Stephen's Cathedral and the Vienna State Opera into impressive experiences. In 2024, they will allow visitors to immerse themselves in their otherworldly world on the Millstätter Lichtweg.
