On some market days, it is still dark when the fresh fruit and vegetables, bacon and eggs are placed on the market stalls. It smells of savoury cheese, sweet Reindling and farmhouse bread that is still warm in the display cases. Sometimes visitors to the markets in Carinthia can also catch a whiff of sea fish that has just been brought in with the nets a few hours earlier.

Carinthian bacon, schnapps, liqueurs, fruit, vegetables, goat's, sheep's or cow's milk cheese, meat - from steak to roast lamb, sausages, free-range eggs, freshly caught whitefish from Lake Millstatt, bee honey, herbs, colourful jams - many of which are organically grown, handicrafts, carvings and all kinds of useful things are on offer at the farmers' markets, country markets and weekly markets in the region.
In most cases, the producers themselves stand behind the market stall. A good opportunity to find out more about the products on offer, because despite the hustle and bustle, there is always time for a quick chat.
Shop in the farm shop, directly on the farm and see for yourself what life is like on the farm or savour the Greisslerei: Products from local farmers, Hadn or the traditional ‘Talggn’ - a nutritious food whose consistency after processing is reminiscent of polenta, flour from the surrounding valleys, herbal salt, freshly caught lake fish, wines, fine brandies, but also Italian specialities are offered in numerous Greisslereien, self-service huts and farm shops.
