The perfect place for TIME for two.
The Mirnock farmers, whose farms are located at the foot of the Weltenberg Mirnock, have filled the picnic basket well - with Mirnock bacon, sausage and cheese specialities, curd cheese spread with fresh herbs and home-baked bread fresh from the oven. A bottle of elderberry juice and a glass of sparkling wine are also included. There is also room in the basket for a dessert. Doris Gösseringer bakes the sweet ‘Mirnockaugen’ in hot fat just before the guests arrive. She refines the yeast dough pastry with a ‘jam eye’ and places it in the picnic basket. Incidentally, the name ‘Mirnockaugen’ comes from the three small lakes that hikers pass on their way to the summit of the Mirnock mountain.
The “Balcony of Stars” is enthroned high above Lake Millstätter See and is a place with a breathtaking view. Its name is borrowed from the reflection of the stars in the lake. It forms the extension of a path that appears to lead directly into Lake Millstätter See. In the evening, the starry balcony gives visitors the feeling of being close enough to touch the stars.
A picnic at sunset is one of the best picnic ideas around Lake Millstätter See. It can easily be combined with an e-bike tour or a relaxed hike along the Via Paradiso, the Slow Trail Mirnock or the Kneipp Mirnock Panorama circular trail!
Firmly rooted in the mountain, the farms of the Mirnock farmers rise between lush green meadows on the gently sloping slopes of the Mirnock mountain. Life in the rhythm of nature characterises the people, both yesterday and today. The Mirnock farmers and their families live from and with the mountain: not all the wood is sold: Tables, benches, fountains and many a nativity scene that decorates the parlour at Christmas are made in-house. A job for the often long winters on the mountain.
Homemade products are available all year round. Not only are bread and cakes baked on the farms, but butter, cheese and bacon are also produced. Black elder is of particular importance.
Even the Romans regarded elder as a medicinal plant and a symbol of fertility. It grows particularly abundantly around farmsteads, such as the Bergfried, and that is a good thing, as it is considered a protective tree for house and farm. The fruits are inedible in their raw state, but once they have been processed into elderberry jelly or sweet elderberry juice, they should definitely be savoured.
