At 141 metres, it is the deepest of the Carinthian lakes, yet in summer you can swim in the warm water of up to 27°C in Lake Millstätter See.
Numerous lidos and free access to the lake offer the opportunity to do so. How about a speedy ringo ride or a relaxed SUP tour to the unspoilt southern shore? A visit to one of the cafés in the lakeside towns of Seeboden am M.S.; Millstatt am See and Döbriach am M.S. and a large ice cream sundae are a must on a family holiday.
Of course you can also swim a lap in the lake at Brennsee. However, water sports enthusiasts can often be found here on a stand-up paddleboard, surfboard or sailing boat. Lake Maltschacher See is idyllically nestled between meadows, vineyards and forests. It is an important habitat for protected bird and fish species. A day of swimming in the natural swimming pool at Lake Maltschach is an insider tip for families.
Lake Maltschacher See and Lake Flatschacher See are only a few kilometres apart and here, too, relaxed serenity prevails. The small bathing lake is only 3.4 metres deep at its deepest point. It therefore warms up particularly quickly in summer.
Pull the nets out of Lake Millstätter See together with the fisherman or take a sailing course on Lake Brennsee, glide over the waves on water skis or a tyre or explore the shores of the lakes on a pedalo, set off on a boat trip on Lake Millstätter See - many adventures await on the waters of the Carinthian lakes. It doesn't get boring all around either. Cycle along the water - on the Millstätter See cycling trail around the lakes and preferably downstream along the banks of the Drau and Tiebel rivers.
A little further afield, you can play football golf and explore nature with a ranger. From the gentle peaks back down into the valley, you can cycle on one of the flow trails on the Turrach or in Bad Kleinkirchheim. Another real adventure is summer tubing on the Goldeck sports mountain and a speedy descent on one of the alpine roller coaster

In the mountains around Lake Millstätter See, families can go all the way to the top, choosing from a variety of hiking trails for families. The hike to the Garnet Gate and a walk along the Crab Hiking Mile are exciting. On the paths of the Millstätter Alpe, even the little ones in pushchairs can join in. There's no chance of boredom here and sometimes the journey is the reward!
Lots of interesting facts for the grown-ups and a ruby red garnet for the little ones await at the Granatium in Radenthein. How about a visit to the Kaslab'n afterwards? This is where flavoursome mountain cheese is produced, which you are also welcome to taste.
At Sagamundo in Döbriach am M.S., mermaids and mountain spirits tell legendary stories. The two thermal spas in Bad Kleinkirchheim and the ‘Drautalperle’ adventure pool are not just for bathing in summer. A visit to Sommeregg Castle offers deep insights into a bygone era. The torture museum here is really spooky. A classroom from grandma's school days, an interactive Carinthia panorama and much more can be seen on a walk through the Museum of Folk Culture at Church Porcia Castle in Spittal.
