Cinema history(ies)

On 5 February 1976, Franz Klammer took the Olympic downhill victory on the Patscherkofel and became the hero of an entire nation. On that day, the streets in his home town and far beyond were empty, the few colour televisions were besieged and Edi Finger literally screamed his heart out as he shot down the finishing straight. This moment made history - and it is the stuff of cinema history.

"Klammer - Chasing the line"

It was quite an event when Andreas Schmied's feature film "Klammer - Chasing the line", the most expensive Austrian cinema production of all time, was released in cinemas just in time for the start of the 2022/23 winter season. Not only on the cinema screens, but also in every nook and cranny of Bad Kleinkirchheim, there was "clinging and fringing". No wonder: the Carinthian ski resort is the ski home of the successful ski emperor, who still leads the world ranking of the most downhill victories.

Klammer Franz won his first European Cup downhill in Bad Kleinkirchheim in 1971, back then on the famous FIS K70 downhill course. The popular "Carinthia - Franz Klammer" World Cup downhill run, one of the black runs in the Bad Kleinkirchheim ski area, was named in his honour.

The Franz Klammer World Cup downhill run has a length of 3.2 kilometres. The difference in altitude between the start at 1904 metres above sea level and the finish at the Kaiserburg valley station is 842 metres. The slope has a gradient of up to 80 per cent.
