According to legend, it was the Mirnock giant who broke off the top of the mountain out of anger at the people in the valley and hurled it into the valley. The rocks divided the lake at the foot of the mountain into the Upper and Lower Lakes. It did not take long for life to return to the shores of the lakes. One of the first buildings on the Upper Lake was the ‘Haus Brenn’, a distillery with tavern rights. The name caught on and so Obersee became Brennsee. Hospitality and conviviality are still very important in Feld am See today, and the sporting opportunities on land and water are almost limitless!
