Centuries-old farmsteads with wooden façades, colourful farmhouse balconies and the former monastery are the first things that catch the eye of visitors to Gnesau. The Holzkulturwanderweg, which leads from Gnesau to Zedlitzdorf, is all about forests and wood. Those who set off here hike through the "Garden of Trees", passing decorated farms, modern wooden houses and a herb garden. In between, information boards provide an insight into the biodiversity of the forests around Gnesau.
The Cistercians were once interested in the sheep's cheese from Gnesau. They set up their own cheese office and the farmers had to deliver 300 cheeses a year to the monks. The Turracher Höhe and the Bad Kleinkirchheim ski area as well as some small, fine ski areas such as the Falkert or the Hochrindl invite you to enjoy long days of skiing and ski tours with great views. Not only, but especially in winter, a warming bath in one of the two thermal spas in Bad Kleinkirchheim is a must.
