Once upon a time there was a king ... that's how many well-known fairy tales begin. Including that of King Waldgeist on the Hochrindl. He watches over visitors who are out and about on the Zirbenzapfi Erlebnisweg in summer or who are taking the Almmatura exam.
The vantage points on the extensive alpine pasture and the gentle peaks are popular hiking destinations for connoisseurs throughout the summer. Ambitious hikers also set off on extended tours around the headwaters of the Gurk on the Hochrindl. Young hikers meet at the Herzl Hütte on the Hochrindl. Ahead of them lies an exciting FamilyTIME with numerous adventures on the Zirbenzapfi Erlebnisweg. The motto here is: Keep your eyes and ears open! Those who are not yet exhausted after the hike can then climb and swing their way through the spacious playgrounds. Skill is required for disc golf. Similar to basketball, you have to hit the basket. Instead of a basketball, a Frisbee disc is used. And then there's King Waldgeist, who has to defend himself against all kinds of ghosts and the witch Stumpelbein.
Artfully carved water spirits, wooden rabbits, a flying witch and many other creatures meet young and old travellers in the realm of King Waldgeist.
The optional half-day or full-day test is both extensive and delicious. There is carving, milking, guessing and tasting in between.
The Hochrindl ski area boasts 20 kilometres of pistes and is still considered an insider tip in Carinthia. Forest runs provide variety. If you like, you can measure yourself on the digital timing system or enjoy the view of the snow from one of the viewing platforms. The pistes are ideal for a winter holiday with the whole family, but there are also challenges for ambitious skiers. The "Krucken" is an FIS course that regularly hosts European Cup races.The cross-country ski trails are also really sporty. Over 20 kilometres of perfectly groomed trails are prepared on the Hochrindl in winter. Every now and then a horse-drawn carriage or snowshoe hikers cross the trail. And when dusk falls at the latest, winter sports enthusiasts meet up over hot tea on the curling rink.
