When Carinthians talk about the Turracher Höhe, they could be referring to the landscape in the north of the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Carinthian Nockberge or the Alpine pass that connects Carinthia with Styria. More often they think of the village of Turracher Höhe. Lumberjacks and miners were the first to settle here. It was only much later that the first guests made their way up to the Turracher Plateau. They stayed, and today there are far more tourists than inhabitants in the village. Some holiday on this side - on the Carinthian side of the Turracher Höhe, some on the other side in Stadl-Predlitz in Styria.
