The weather has to be right, the piste conditions and, of course, a break in between. Numerous ski huts directly on the slopes in the Goldeck, Bad Kleinkirchheim, Turracher Höhe, Hochrindl and Falkert ski areas invite you to do just that. On the large sun terraces, in exposed summit restaurants and in the cosy huts, where you can take a seat in the wood-panelled parlours, the winter panorama will gladly join you at the table.

Carinthian mountain hut cuisine is delicious and varied. It is hearty, savoury, with a pinch of southern lightness and, above all, cooked with regional products. How about "Kasnudel" or a "Ritschert" - a savoury stew with rolled barley, beans and smoked meat? Home-made specialities are often on the menu. High-proof schnapps, savoury black bread or smoked Carinthian bacon not only contain regional ingredients, but above all a lot of passion on the part of the innkeepers.
 

Tip:

A piece of Carinthian bacon is part of the Brettljause. The secret to eating it properly is to cut it into wafer-thin slices with a well-sharpened snack knife and enjoy it with a piece of brown bread. The combination of ham and fat makes the flavour!

In some ski huts, skiers not only stop off for an enjoyable break, but also like to stay a little longer. There are opportunities to do so on the Turracher Höhe, on the Hochrindl, around the Falkertsee and in the Bad Kleinkirchheim ski area. A real winter atmosphere is created when the large wood-burning cooker in the hut kitchen is fired up and the warm air flows through the rooms. In addition to traditional huts, winter guests can also rent exclusive chalets on the ski slopes.
